3 Sep: Nic Paidas: Paddling the Zambezi with one arm

One-armed whitewater kayaking is the latest challenge to tickle the
fancy of extreme sportsman

Nic, who lost one arm at birth due to a rare condition, broke
records for swimming and won awards for judo as a child. He is a
passionate rock climber and spent weeks mastering the most difficult
of cycles, the unicycle, which he now takes on mountain bike trails.

He was the first one-armed person to kayak the Zambezi rapids below
Victoria Falls – an achievement which was followed a day later by a
a severe accident in which he hit his head on a rock and burst his
eardrum.

Nick will describe his adventurous life story and whitewater
adventures, with plenty of video footage, at the next Essa monthly
meeting.
